She's Reaching, top 2019, photos 2021
This blouse was made to replicate the feeling of trying to unbutton a garment from the back. Stretching and reaching. The sleeves are hand-dyed cotton voile, while the white fabric is cotton shirting. Patterned and sewn by me, this piece also features princess seams, bust darts, and a bias-cut placket.
This top and skirt were made to represent the idea of becoming one with the wind. The natural takes over the manufactured as the structured pant and shirt mold into free flowing extensions of the body. All fabrics were hand-dyed with natural dyes, and fabric treatment was done with hand embroidery.
This garment and headpiece were inspired by Anne Hamilton-Byrne's cult called "The Family". Tapping into the effects of psychedelics on children and ideas of unified and manufactured identity, this garment was hand-dyed and sewn by me. It's meant to completely blur the identity and visuals of the wearer, much like the children of Anne's group.
